When seeking chiropractic care, many people often ask, "What is the best type of chiropractic adjustment?" Is it a manual adjustment with lots of clicking, popping, and cracking? Is it a light force adjustment that uses a tool, such as an activator? Or is it something in between, like one utilizing the drops on the table?
The short answer is that there is not one perfect adjusting style out there that fits every person! Every body responds differently to the various types of adjusting styles. At Vibrant Family Chiropractic and Wellness, our goal is to find the adjusting style that works best for you and your body, and that might vary from visit to visit and between different areas of your spine!
If a new patient comes in and has no preference on adjusting style, we are most likely to use a combination of our three main types: manual (or diversified technique), drop table technique, and activator adjusting. If a new patient has been adjusted in the past with a technique that worked well for them, then we will try to continue using that technique, if it is in our skill set!
Individuals with a ligament laxity diagnosis, such as someone with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, typically respond better to lighter adjustments. For someone with a lot of muscle tension and adhesions, they may respond faster to a manual adjustment. We will talk you through the adjustment on your first visit to be sure you are comfortable with the care you are receiving.
Each visit, we will follow up on how you responded and make any changes needed to your care style. We like to do muscle work during your visits as well to help your body make changes faster. This application will also vary and can include trigger point release manually or via activator, stretching, myofascial release, or using a tool like a massage device.
It is important to find a chiropractor that will listen to your preferences and personalize your adjustment to your body. At Vibrant Family Chiropractic & Wellness, we want you to leave your adjustment feeling like you were listened to and received the best care for you!
